Een beroemde "zoon van Duisburg" is Sven De Leijer. Hij is verknocht aan zijn thuisstreek en hij geniet jaarlijks van de dorpsfeesten: "Twee weken duren die, elke dag is er wel iets te doen. Bijna iedereen van het dorp is er en iedereen is goedge- zind. In zo'n dorp wil ik mijn zoontje onbezonnen zien opgroeien. Ik heb zelf lang in de jeugdbeweging gezeten en was actief in de jeugdraad. Hoe vaak heb ik hier niet in een of ander bizar kostuum op een podium mensen aan het lachen gebracht?"
