Peissant est une section de la commune belge d'Estinnes, située en Région wallonne dans la province de Hainaut. La frontière Franco-Belge se situe à 5km au sud, par le grand axe Route nationale 40.Pescentum, dérivé du latin pascere qui signifie paître. Certains parlent de Piscant, vieux patois signifiant "village du pêcheur" parce qu’il y avait beaucoup d’étangs.
