Près du Marché aux légumes se trouve un buste de la Fonne. Alfons de Pagie (1953-1998), alias 'la Fonne' ou 'le Maire de la nuit de Lokeren', a reçu une statue sur la petite place où il avait son domicile, où il tenait un café et où, en août, les Fonnefeesten ont encore lieu chaque année. Willy Linthout l'a immortalisé dans la 133e bande dessinée d'Urbanus 'Lokerse Paardenworsten'.
