L'église pittoresque de Sint-Jan-in-Eremo date de 1682 et est dédiée à Saint Jean-Baptiste. Une église se tenait déjà ici en 984, mais elle a été détruite lors de l'inondation de Sainte Élisabeth en 1377. Le chemin de croix extérieur en sept stations illustre la vie de Jean-Baptiste. On y priait contre des maladies telles que les convulsions, les 'seskens' et l'épilepsie. En face de l'église se trouvent 'Pinte ende Sproete', deux filles du coq Cantecleer du récit de Reynaert. Dans la colonne se trouve une empreinte de Reynaert. À l'origine, ce lieu s'appelait Sint-Jansdorp, puis le terme 'in eremo' a été ajouté, latin pour 'dans le désert'.
