Le moulin était à l'origine un moulin double qui fonctionnait d'une part comme moulin à écorce et moulin à huile, et d'autre part comme moulin à grain. Dans le moulin à grain, on moulinait principalement du sarrasin et du seigle. En 1926, le moulin à huile/écorce a été démoli. Plus tard, des recherches dendrochronologiques ont été effectuées sur les pilotis, qui ont révélé qu'ils provenaient du début du 8e siècle, ce qui fait de l'emplacement du moulin l'un des plus anciens de Belgique.
