Wadern est une ville sarroise qui fait partie de la région Merzig-Wadern, située entre Sarrebruck et Trèves. La ville et sa région appartiennent linguistiquement à l’espace francique mosellan. Malgré une petite densité de 143 habitants par km2, Wadern est la troisième ville après Sarrebruck et Saint Wendel considérant sa superficie de 111 km2. La ville est divisée en treize quartiers qui sont tous rattachés à la ville de Wadern, chef-lieu administratif.
