Flonheim est une municipalité allemande située dans le land de Rhénanie-Palatinat et l'arrondissement d'Alzey-Worms.
« On a découvert, il y a deux ans, dans la banlieue de la mairie de Flonheim, canton d'Alzey, une carrière très abondante de pierres à bâtir; cette découverte est d'autant plus importante qu'on avoit été obligé jusqu'à présent de tirer à grands frais, de la rive droite du Rhin, un grès rouge et friable qui ne remplissoit qu'imparfaitement les vues des architectes. Pour faciliter l'exploitation de cette nouvelle carrière, le Gouvernement vient d'autoriser la confection d'un chemin d'embranchement avec la grande route de Paris à Mayence.
