Calbecht est l'un des 31 quartiers de la ville de Salzgitter, dans le Land de Basse-Saxe, situé dans la localité de West. Calbecht faisait partie jusqu'au 31 mars 1942 du district de Wolfenbüttel et est devenu par un acte administratif le 1er avril 1942 une partie de la grande ville de Watenstedt-Salzgitter. Le 23 janvier 1951, celle-ci a été officiellement renommée Salzgitter.
La première mention écrite du nom du lieu se trouve dans un document de l'empereur Frédéric Ier daté du 9 mai 1152. Il est confirmé que le Georgenbergstift près de Goslar a acquis un moulin à Mahner de Conrado de Caltbecht. Les premiers noms de lieux sont Calbechte, Calcbechte ou Caltbechte, Calcbechte, Calbichte et Calbich. En 1548, on trouve pour la première fois l'orthographe actuelle Calbecht.
