Lesse est l'un des 31 quartiers de la ville autonome de Salzgitter en Basse-Saxe, situé dans la localité de Nordwest. Jusqu'au 31 mars 1942, Lesse appartenait au district de Wolfenbüttel et est devenu un quartier de la grande ville de Watenstedt-Salzgitter par un acte administratif le 1er avril 1942. Le 23 janvier 1951, celle-ci a été officiellement rebaptisée Salzgitter.
Lesse a été mentionné pour la première fois dans un document en 1022. Déjà vers 1400, le lieu se composait de 90 fermes. En 1543, le village a été attaqué par des troupes de Brunswick et complètement détruit. En 1529, 1597 et 1598, de nombreux habitants de Lesse ont été victimes de la peste.
