Westhoven est bordé au nord par Humboldt/Gremberg, au nord-est par Gremberghoven, à l'est par Ensen, au sud par le Rhin et au nord-ouest par l'autoroute fédérale 4, elle touche Poll. Au sud, sur la rive gauche du Rhin, se trouve le quartier de Rodenkirchen.
Les premières traces de présence humaine ont été retrouvées à l'époque néolithique. Il s'agit d'une part de restes de la culture de Rössener. On a découvert un petit récipient dans une fosse de tuilerie, décoré de rangées horizontales de larges encoches. D'autre part, mélangé avec des restes de la culture de Michelsberg, car le site contenait des morceaux de céramique.
