Le quartier de Grumme à Bochum fait en grande partie partie du district municipal de Mitte et se trouve au nord du centre-ville.
En 1150, Grumme est mentionnée pour la première fois dans un document, le soi-disant Urbare, de l'abbaye de Werden sous le nom de Grumheim. À cette époque, il devait y avoir environ 10 fermes dans la commune de Grumme. Au cours des siècles suivants, le nombre de fermes et la population ne changèrent pas de manière significative. Environ 1850, Grumme comptait environ 250 habitants. À la suite de l'industrialisation, la population a ensuite augmenté rapidement.
