Le camp de concentration de Salzgitter-Bad a été établi en septembre 1944 par les SS et les usines Hermann Göring en tant que camp annexe du camp de concentration de Neuengamme à Salzgitter-Bad.
Dans un ancien « camp de travailleurs civils » numéro 43 de la « Bergbau- und Hüttenbedarf AG », environ 500 femmes ont été logées dans quatre baraques à Salzgitter-Bad, qui avaient été transférées du camp de Ravensbrück et du camp de Bergen-Belsen à Salzgitter. Dans la « AG für Bergbau- und Hüttenbedarf », une filiale des usines Hermann Göring, et dans l'entreprise sous-traitante « Kleineisenwerk Salzgitter », elles ont été employées dans la production d'armements. Parmi les femmes se trouvaient de nombreuses Polonaises qui avaient été arrêtées pendant l'insurrection de Varsovie.
