La station se situe dans la Königin-Luise-Straße en face du domaine de Dahlem. À proximité se trouvent des instituts de l'université libre de Berlin et les musées de Dahlem.
La station est créée dans le cadre de la construction de la ligne entre Wittenbergplatz et Freie Universität pour permettre l'accès à cette zone alors rurale. La station conçue par Friedrich Hennings est construite en 1912 et 1913. À la demande de Guillaume II, elle prend l'aspect d'une ferme du nord, une maison à colombages à toit de chaume.
