À la dernière glaciation, des structures rocheuses se sont formées dans le paysage de l'Eifel. À cette époque, la zone côtière du Liaszee se trouvait à cet endroit. Entre les rochers, des fissures étroites d'un diamètre de 1 à 5 mètres se sont formées, qui constituent aujourd'hui un chemin de promenade pour les touristes. La rivière Prüm coule dans les environs du parc naturel.
