Le lieu actuel de Lippendorf était autrefois le village de Medewitzsch. En 1934, Lippendorf et Spahnsdorf ont été incorporés à Medewitzsch, qui a perdu son nom slave et a adopté le nom de Lippendorf.
Lippendorf se situe dans la dépression de la plaine de Leipzig, à environ 20 kilomètres au sud de Leipzig. À l'ouest se trouve la mine à ciel ouvert de Vereinigtes Schleenhain, qui fait partie du bassin houiller de l'Allemagne centrale, et à l'est la Pleiße.
