Le quartz d'Odenwald est extrait dans des carrières près du village de Reichenbach im Odenwald sur la Bergstraße dans l'Odenwald. Le site minier historiquement le mieux connu sur la colline de Borstein a été en partie protégé depuis l'arrêt de l'exploitation minière. L'usine de quartz de Reichenbach et deux autres entreprises continuent d'extraire à d'autres emplacements. Ceux-ci se trouvent à Borstein, Hohenstein et Katzenstein. Au total, il existe cinq veines principales de cette roche très colorée en Allemagne, qui est commercialisée en tant que pierre naturelle.
