Le château de Königstein appartient à la ville hessoise de Königstein im Taunus dans le Hochtaunuskreis en Hesse et en est le symbole. C'est l'une des plus grandes ruines de châteaux d'Allemagne.
La ruine du Gipfelburg est située à 407 m d'altitude au-dessus du niveau de la mer, sur le bord occidental de la vieille ville de Königstein. Le flanc nord et ouest de la colline du château est boisé, plus à l'ouest, des espaces paysagers non bâtis s'étendent.
