Chammünster est un quartier de la ville de Cham. Au Moyen Âge, le village a joué un rôle important dans la christianisation de la forêt bavaroise et de la région frontalière de la Bohême.
En 740, le duc Tassilo III de Bavière fit don d’un terrain dans la Marque de Chamb aux bénédictins du monastère de Saint-Emmeram à Ratisbonne. Ils ont mis en place une cellule comme base de mission pour la zone frontalière de Bohême.
