Palos de la Frontera est une commune de la province de Huelva dans la communauté autonome d'Andalousie en Espagne.Sa situation en bordure de l'océan Atlantique lui a permis de jouer un rôle de premier plan dans l'histoire. C'est en effet de Palos de la Frontera que partit Christophe Colomb en août 1492. Il prit la mer depuis le port de la ville, où sont aujourd'hui exposées des reproductions des caravelles : la Pinta et la Niña, ainsi que de la nef : la Santa María, les trois vaisseaux à bord desquels embarque le navigateur pour son expédition. Une partie des navigateurs étant originaires de la ville proche de Moguer, par l'effet d'une confusion, Palos était parfois aussi appelée fallacieusement Palos de Moguer.
