L'église de Santa Maria de Aviá est située dans la ville d'Aviá, au sein de la comarca catalane du Bergadá.
Elle figure comme un don au Monastère de San Lorenzo de Bagá, en 983 dans l'acte de consécration.
Celle-ci a conservé son caractère paroissial jusqu'en 1312. Actuellement, elle dépend de l'église de San Martín d'Aviá.
