La conurbation Petrer-Elda est située à l'intérieur de la province d'Alicante. Composée des villes de Petrer et Elda, elle forme, avec 88 164 habitants, le 6e noyau de population du Pays valencien et le 47e d'Espagne.
Jusqu'à l'année 1975, on pouvait encore établir une ligne de démarcation approximative, dans le quartier nommé précisément la Frontera, à partir de cette date, l'union physique des deux municipalités était déjà complète, et il a été nécessaire de créer une communauté de services, actuellement appelée Communauté intermunicipale de la Vallée du Vinalopó.
