En 1924, Glozel devint un site archéologique mystérieux suite à la découverte d'Émile Fradin, un jeune fermier local alors âgé de 17 ans. La légende raconte qu'il aurait trouvé une vache dans un trou, où des milliers d'objets archéologiques auraient été mis au jour par la suite. Certains pensent qu'il s'agit d'une invention, d'autres qu'il s'agit d'une véritable découverte.
La présence de tant d'artefacts sur ce site est liée à une théorie de l'archéologue Alice Gerard concernant un lieu de culte. Un ensemble de mégalithes, appelé le « Champ des Morts », y a été découvert.
Il existe encore dans le village un musée privé où l'on peut admirer la collection privée et participer au débat sur sa véracité.
