Airvault est une commune du centre-ouest de la France située dans le département des Deux-Sèvres en région Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
La ville d'Airvault, située au nord-est du département des Deux-Sèvres en Haut-Poitou, est nichée au creux d'une vallée entre pays granitique et pays calcaire. Dans sa partie nord-ouest, elle suit la rive droite du Thouet, rivière limitant les plaines et la Gâtine. Elle est un carrefour entre des routes provenant de pôles urbains tels que Mirebeau, Bressuire, Thouars, Parthenay et Poitiers. Airvault est au centre d'un réseau de chemins menant également à Moncontour, Argenton-Château, Saint-Varent, Saint-Loup-Lamairé et Saint-Jouin-de-Marnes. À proximité d'Airvault passait l'ancienne voie romaine qui menait de Limonum à Juliomagus .
