Hourtin est une commune du Sud-Ouest de la France, dans le département de la Gironde, en région Nouvelle-Aquitaine.Avec 3 813 habitants en 2019, cette commune du Médoc se divise en six quartiers principaux : Hourtin-Ville, Hourtin-Port, Hourtin-Plage, Lachanau, Contaut, Piqueyrot. Nichée au cœur de la forêt des Landes, elle borde la côte d’Argent et compte sur la présence du plus grand lac naturel de France, le lac d'Hourtin et de Carcans. Hourtin est également la trentième plus grande commune de France de par sa superficie. Une partie du territoire communal est classé en réserve naturelle nationale.
