La Roche-sur-Yon est une commune de l'Ouest de la France, préfecture du département de la Vendée, situé dans la région des Pays de la Loire.Arrosée par l’Yon et par ses affluents, la Riaillée et l'Ornay , La Roche-sur-Yon doit sa physionomie actuelle à Napoléon Ier, qui fait d'un petit bourg une cité moderne, basée sur un plan régulier en forme de pentagone et dotée d'édifices publics imposants répartis autour d'une vaste esplanade centrale . La ville est fondée par décret impérial le 25 mai 1804 .
