La Roche-sur-Yon is een plaats en gemeente in het Franse departement Vendée . De gemeente telde 55.147 inwoners op 1 januari 2019. Het is de hoofdstad van de Vendée. De plaats maakt deel uit van het arrondissement La Roche-sur-Yon.In de middeleeuwen was de stad de zetel van een prinsdom. De stad werd in brand gestoken door republikeinse troepen tijdens de opstand in de Vendée na de Franse Revolutie. De stad herstelde stilaan vanaf 1804 nadat Napoleon er een garnizoen legerde en tot hoofdstad van het departement maakte. De architect Duvivier stond in voor de wederopbouw met een regelmatig stratenplan.
