Sancerre est une commune française située dans le département du Cher en région Centre-Val de Loire. En 2021, cette commune a été élue Village préféré des Français dans l'émission présentée par Stéphane Bern sur France 3.Sancerre se situe à la limite orientale du département du Cher et de la région Centre-Val de Loire, limitrophe du département de la Nièvre et de la région Bourgogne dont elle est séparée par la Loire. Le canal latéral à la Loire traverse le territoire communal.
