Le cardinal Mazarin (l’un des points focaux de la guerre civile du XVIIe siècle en France) et Anne d’Autriche s’y réfugièrent en mars 1652 pendant les rigueurs de la Fronde. Le mot fronde signifie fronde, que les émeutiers parisiens utilisaient pour briser les vitres des partisans du cardinal Mazarin. La Fronde aboutit finalement à la déresponsabilisation de l’aristocratie territoriale et à l’émergence de la monarchie absolue.
