Saint-Michel-l'Observatoire est une commune française située dans le département des Alpes-de-Haute-Provence en région Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.
Après un exode rural important, cette commune a retrouvé sa population des années 1850 . Elle a préservé ses richesses patrimoniales : patrimoine bâti, allant du Moyen Âge au XIXe siècle , patrimoine naturel , agriculture. Un tourisme s'est développé sur le territoire, inclus dans le parc naturel régional du massif du Luberon. L’observatoire de Haute-Provence est situé sur le territoire de la commune, avec des animations mais aussi une recherche scientifique permanente.
