La montée au Col de Joux Plane est une célèbre ascension cycliste au départ de Samoëns et une fameuse descente vers Morzinne. C’est sur cette montée qu’Armstrong perd plusieurs minutes dans le Tour de 2000. Il était tellement frustré qu’il montait dans l’avion du Col de Joux chaque fois qu’il en avait l’occasion. Lors de son dernier Tour de France, il a même escaladé le Col pendant sa journée de congé.
