Taunton est une ville du comté de Somerset, en Angleterre. Le nom vient de « Ville sur la rivière Tone », ou « Tone Town » en anglais. Il y a un marché hebdomadaire. La ville est située à mi-chemin entre Bristol et Torquay, au pied des Blackdowns Hills qui culminent à 315 mètres. Elle est arrosée par la Tone, affluent de la Parrett qui se jette dans le canal de Bristol. Elle est en quelque sorte une porte vers la péninsule formée par le Devon et les Cornouailles à l'ouest.
