La grotte de Mother Shipton se trouve à Knaresborough, dans le Yorkshire du Nord, en Angleterre, près de la rivière Nidd. À proximité se trouve un puits pétrifiant, également connu sous le nom de puits en goutte à goutte. Ce dernier est la plus ancienne attraction touristique à facturer un tarif en Angleterre et fonctionne depuis 1630. L'eau du puits est si riche en sulfate et en carbonate que des artefacts peuvent être placés dans le puits pour être "pétrifiés" en tant qu'attraction touristique.
