Audley End

Audley End is a stately home dating from the 17th century but in World War Two it became part of the General Headquarters Line, the main defence line of the UK. There are many features surviving in the grounds including pillboxes, bridge barriers, mining chambers to blow up bridges, and a loopholed wall made by the Home Guard. Later in the war the house was used as a training centre by the Polish section of the Special Operations Executive.
