Le Musée de l'Acropole contient les pièces d'art les plus importantes trouvées sur l'Acropole. Avant l'ouverture de ce musée, vous pouviez voir ces pièces d'art dans le petit musée au sommet de l'Acropole.

Vous verrez également quelques espaces vides dans le musée. Ceux-ci sont réservés pour les "Marbres d'Élgin". Ces pièces ont été 'achetées' par les Anglais aux Turcs lorsqu'ils ont occupé la Grèce.

Merlina Mercourri a essayé de récupérer les Marbres d'Élgin mais n'a pas réussi. Vous pouvez voir les Marbres d'Élgin au British Museum à Londres.
