Louth est un village au cœur du comté de Louth, en Irlande. Il se trouve à environ 11 km au sud-ouest de la ville de Dundalk, 10,9 km de la ville voisine d'Ardee. Le village est situé à environ 15 km au sud-est de la ville de Carrickmacross, dans le comté de Monaghan. Le village a donné son nom au comté.
Le village porte le nom de Lugh, un dieu des anciens Irlandais, et aurait pu être autrefois le site d'un sanctuaire dédié au dieu. Historiquement, le nom de lieu a été orthographié de différentes manières comme ; "Lughmhagh", "Lughmhadh" et "Lughbhadh". On pense que le premier signifie "la plaine de Lugh" ou "le champ de Lugh", mais la signification des deux autres est incertaine. Lú est l'orthographe simplifiée moderne.
