Louth ist ein Dorf im Herzen des County Louth, Irland. Es liegt ungefähr 11 km südwestlich der Stadt Dundalk, 10,9 km von der Nachbarstadt Ardee entfernt. Das Dorf ist ungefähr 15 km südöstlich der Stadt Carrickmacross im County Monaghan. Das Dorf hat dem County seinen Namen gegeben.
Das Dorf ist nach Lugh benannt, einem Gott der alten Iren, und könnte einst der Ort eines Schreins gewesen sein, der dem Gott gewidmet war. Historisch wurde der Ortsname in verschiedenen Schreibweisen wie „Lughmhagh“, „Lughmhadh“ und „Lughbhadh“ geschrieben. Die erste wird als „Lughs Ebene“ oder „Lughs Feld“ verstanden, während die Bedeutung der anderen beiden unklar ist. Lú ist die moderne vereinfachte Schreibweise.
