Cette maison a été conçue par un ami architecte, Juan O'Gorman, dans les années 1930. Ce fut la première construction au Mexique selon les directives du fondateur de l'architecture moderne, Le Corbusier.
Alors que le bâtiment bleu à droite a été habité par Frida Kahlo (uniquement pendant certaines périodes, car elle préférait la Casa Azul à Coyoacán), Diego Rivera a effectivement travaillé intensivement dans le bâtiment à gauche, produisant environ 4000 œuvres de chevalet jusqu'à sa mort en 1957. Aujourd'hui, vous pouvez visiter l'atelier qui abrite un petit musée d'objets personnels, de photos, de matériaux de peinture et d'œuvres d'art populaire. Le musée organise des expositions temporaires.
