Savais-tu qu'on ne dit pas "j'habite À Urk" mais "À Urk". Cela a tout à voir avec le fait qu'Urk était une île jusqu'en 1939. En fermant la Zuiderzee avec la digue de fermeture et en asséchant les parties de la mer intérieure, Urk est devenu une partie du pays. Urk était une île de pêcheurs et n'a jamais été enthousiaste à l'idée de devenir partie du continent. De plus, Urk n'était pas une priorité élevée pour le gouvernement néerlandais. Le fait qu'Urk ait dû attendre 9 ans pour obtenir une route qui établirait une connexion avec le réseau routier néerlandais montre cette relation froide. Les Urkers s'attendaient également à obtenir une grande partie des polders fertiles, mais ceux-ci ont été attribués à des agriculteurs de premier plan venant du reste des Pays-Bas, mais pas à Urk.
