Sør-Varanger est une commune norvégienne située dans le comté de Troms og Finnmark. Située à l'extrême nord-est du pays, aux frontières avec la Finlande et la Russie, elle occupe une superficie de 3 967 km2, et comptait en 2009 9 653 habitants.
Située dans la corne nord-est du comté, Sør-Varanger est limitrophe de la Finlande au sud-ouest, et de la Russie à l'est. Elle est également voisine de la commune de Nesseby à l'ouest, et de Vadsø et Vardø par-delà le fjord Varanger au nord.
