Aberdeen est la troisième ville d'Écosse, située dans le nord-est de la Grande-Bretagne, sur les bords de la mer du Nord, grâce à laquelle elle est la capitale européenne du pétrole offshore. Depuis 1891, Aberdeen possède officiellement le statut de cité, de council area et région de lieutenance. Elle était la capitale administrative de la région de Grampian de 1975 à 1996 . Elle est aussi la capitale du council area de l'Aberdeenshire, bien qu'elle n'en fasse pas partie.
