Le Federal Bureau of Investigation , ou très couramment nommé par son sigle FBI est, aux États-Unis, le principal service fédéral de police judiciaire et un service de renseignement intérieur. En 2010, la juridiction du FBI recouvre plus de deux cents catégories de crimes fédéraux, faisant du FBI l'organisme d'enquête majeur du gouvernement américain. Ses attributions incluent l'antiterrorisme, le contre-espionnage, le crime informatique et la médecine légale. Établi en 1908, comme Bureau of Investigation , ce service est rebaptisé FBI en 1935. Son siège est situé à Washington, et ses bureaux sont disséminés dans plus de quatre-cents villes américaines, et cinquante ambassades dans le monde.
Le sceau du FBI a été créé par le chef illustrateur Leo Joseph Gauthier et est utilisé pour la première fois en 1941. Sur le listel situé sous le blason est inscrit en anglais la devise du service qui est : Fidelity, Bravery, and Integrity .
