Il castello di Genoelselderen e i suoi dintorni sono pieni di storie storiche. Il castello si trova lungo la vecchia strada romana che collegava Tongeren a Colonia. Nella foresta dietro al castello si trova un tumulo gallo-romano. La prima menzione del castello risale alla fine del tredicesimo secolo. Fino al 1718, il castello apparteneva alla nobile famiglia d'Elderen (una linea di spicco: Jean-Louis d'Elderen era principe-vescovo di Liegi).
