Il castello di Rumbeke è stato un tempo di proprietà dei conti delle Fiandre. Durante il XIII secolo, il castello divenne proprietà dei signori di Wervik. Successivamente, passò alternativamente alle famiglie di Lichtervelde, Gistel e Antoing. La signoria di Rumbeke fu venduta nel 1426 da Jan di Antoing, signore di Briffeuil, a Seger di Langhemeersch. Maria di Langhemeersch sposò Robert de Thiennes. Così il castello divenne di proprietà della famiglia de Thiennes-van Langhemeersch. Il castello rimase nelle mani di questa famiglia fino al 1856. Successivamente, il castello con la foresta divenne proprietà della famiglia de Limburg Stirum. Oggi è la sede dell'Associazione Professionale delle Imprese di Autobus e Autocarri delle Fiandre. Dal 1987 è il dominio provinciale dello Sterrebos.
