Sapevi che Albert Einstein è stato un residente di De Haan? Albert Einstein abitò a De Haan per alcuni mesi nel 1933. Dopo un soggiorno come professore ospite negli Stati Uniti, arrivò nel porto di Anversa durante il suo viaggio di ritorno in Germania a marzo 1933. Poiché Adolf Hitler era stato eletto in Germania nello stesso mese, la coppia Einstein decise di non tornare e si trasferì a De Haan, dove andarono a vivere nella parte sinistra della villa bifamiliare 'Savoyarde' in Shakespearelaan. In seguito si unirono a loro anche la sua figliastro Margot, il suo assistente Walther Mayer e la sua segretaria Helen Dukas. Alla fine divenne troppo pericoloso anche per Einstein in Belgio e il 9 settembre 1933 lasciò De Haan in incognito, verso l'Inghilterra dove rimase per un po'. Il 17 ottobre 1933 partì definitivamente per gli Stati Uniti.
