Savais-tu qu'Albert Einstein a un jour été résident de la Haan ? Albert Einstein a vécu quelques mois à De Haan en 1933. Après un séjour en tant que professeur invité aux États-Unis, il est arrivé en mars 1933 au port d'Anvers lors de son retour en Allemagne. Comme Adolf Hitler avait été élu en Allemagne ce même mois, le couple Einstein a décidé de ne pas revenir et est parti pour De Haan, où il a emménagé dans la partie gauche de la maison jumelée 'Savoyarde' sur la Shakespearelaan. Plus tard, sa belle-fille Margot, son assistant Walther Mayer et sa secrétaire Helen Dukas les ont rejoints. Finalement, la situation est devenue trop dangereuse pour Einstein également en Belgique et il a quitté De Haan incognito le 9 septembre 1933, en direction de l'Angleterre où il est resté un certain temps. Le 17 octobre 1933, il est parti définitivement pour les États-Unis.
