Gijzenzele è un villaggio nella provincia belga di Fiandre Orientali ed è una frazione di Oosterzele. La superficie è di 1,87 km² e conta circa 1000 abitanti. La prima menzione risale all'864 come Gisingasale, che è una combinazione di un nome personale e sala, un edificio centrale. Probabilmente fu donato nel VII secolo all'abbazia di San Bavo di Gand come una delle più antiche proprietà. Qui si trovava una grande fattoria, il Hof van Gijzenzele, da cui i boschi circostanti furono sfruttati dall'abbazia. Nel XVI secolo Gijzenzele passò al vescovo di Gand. Amministrativamente Gijzenzele faceva parte del Paese di Rode, che era parte del Paese di Aalst.
