La Chiesa di San Michele viene già citata nell'11° secolo (1105) e apparteneva originariamente al castello che probabilmente fu costruito da nobili franchi (allora chiamata chiesa villereccia, fa parte del castello e di una fattoria). Serviva anche come fortezza strategica per il guado del fiume Dender. La torre è stata chiamata "il campanile" per secoli e offriva protezione alle persone in difficoltà. Tra il 1105 e il 1796, l'Abbazia di Affligem possedeva il diritto di patronato su questa chiesa: si occupava dell'edificio, poteva nominare il parroco e gestiva anche le entrate.
