La iglesia de San Miguel se menciona ya en el siglo XI (1105) y originalmente pertenecía al castillo que probablemente fue construido por señores francos (entonces llamada iglesia rural, pertenecía al castillo y a una granja). También pudo haber servido como una fortaleza estratégica en el cruce del Dender. La torre fue llamada durante siglos "el campanario" y ofrecía protección a las personas en dificultades. Entre 1105 y 1796, la Abadía de Affligem tenía el derecho de patronato sobre esta iglesia: era responsable del edificio, podía nombrar al párroco y también gestionaba los ingresos.
