La stazione fu aperta nel 1861 come stazione Gent-Eecloo, situata a nord della strada Antwerpsesteenweg, e fungeva da stazione terminale per la linea verso Eeklo. Nel 1872 il suo status di stazione terminale venne meno poiché i binari furono prolungati a ovest della stazione fino a Ledeberg, dove fu effettuato il collegamento con la linea ferroviaria 50.
