La estación se inauguró en 1861 como estación Gent-Eecloo, que estaba ubicada al norte de la carretera Antwerpsesteenweg, y que funcionaba como estación cabecera para la línea hacia Eeklo. En 1872, la condición de estación cabecera fue retirada porque las vías al oeste de la estación se extendieron hasta Ledeberg, donde se hizo la conexión con la línea 50.
